BIAK – Bonnechere Inòdewiziwin Abinòdjìnjish Kikinàmàgan is a new Early Years Child and Family program that provides Indigenous Cultural Teachings to off-reserve Indigenous and non-Indigenous children, families, and caregivers.  We are looking for a highly motivated Registered Early Childhood Educator to inspire and be part of this new and innovative program

Term Contract Hours:  35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary:  hourly rate to be negotiated
Closing Date: April 18, 2018   

Responsibilities:

The Registered Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the delivery of core program services including but not limited to:

  • Discussions and information sharing about early learning, child development, parenting (including pre-and post-natal), nutrition, play and inquiry-based learning, and other topics that support their role
  • Assisting families in building connections with outside community resources and supports through information-sharing
  • Facilitating programs and services that build responsive adult-child relationships and encourage children’s development, exploration, play, and inquiry- as supported by How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years
  • Responding to parent/caregiver concerns about their child’s development through conversations, observations, and education
  • Assist with Cultural Teachings with certified Cultural teachers.

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Diploma and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE)
  • Previous work (2 years experience) in a licensed childcare or community/family resource setting is preferred
  • Indigenous Cultural knowledge would be an asset but is not mandatory

 Core Competencies:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, some evenings and weekends
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work as a multi-disciplinary team member is required
  • Knowledge and commitment to the principals of best practices in the field of Early Learning is essential
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of guiding documents such as: How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, Think Feel Act, etc.
  • Previous experience working with children with special needs is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (French an asset)
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Current immunization records
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check (current within 6 months) and a vulnerable sector screening

Working Conditions:

  • Work is generally completed within an office environment in Pembroke, Ontario
  • Travel throughout Renfrew County to various schools and daycare centers is required
