I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Kathleen Forward, and I serve as the Cultural Heritage Advisor at the Algonquins of Ontario (AOO) Consultation Office. I have an undergraduate and masters in Anthropology and have several years of consulting archaeology experience. Further, I have several years of experience teaching archaeology. One of the most exciting programs the Algonquins of Ontario has to offer is the Archaeological Liaison Program! Unfortunately, the archaeological liaison program has been cancelled for several years due to COVID-19.  The AOO Consultation Office is working hard to ensure that the Archaeological Liaisons can be deployed for the 2022 field season.

The AOO Office only has 12 available Archaeological Liaison Positions available this summer (to be filled on a first come first serves basis). Archaeological Liaison Requirements:

  • Each Archaeological Liaison must attend and successfully complete a one-day Virtual Archaeological Liaison Refresher Course (early June – date to be determined)
  • Virtual, directed by AOO Office (~8 hours)
  • Each Archaeological Liaison must have Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C certificate (In the event that a candidate does not have the training, training will be arranged by the AOO)
  • Virtual Self-directed (~6 hours) and In-class (date TBD) (~8 hours)
  • Each Archaeological Liaison must have Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) (if a candidate does not have the training, training will be arranged by the AOO)
  • Mandatory Virtual Self-directed Training (~1 hour)
  • Each Archaeological Liaison must have Workplace Violence and Harassment Training for All Audiences (Federal) (if a candidate does not have the training, training will be arranged by the AOO)
  • Mandatory Virtual Self-directed Training (~1 hour)
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s License with access to a dependable personal vehicle
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
  • Ability to travel in remote locations with limited cellphone coverage in all weather conditions
  • Access to a computer and internet for training purposes and daily reporting

Please review the above information. If you are interested in being an Archaeological Liaison for the AOO for the 2022 field season.
