The Algonquin Forestry Authority (AFA), the Ontario Crown agency responsible for the sustainable forest management of Algonquin Park’s forests, invites applications for the position of Area Manager – Huntsville.

The Area Manager leads a team of forestry professionals and contractors to deliver the forest management program in the west-central half of Algonquin Provincial Park. Duties include negotiating and administering logging and timber sales contracts, operational and fiscal planning, supervising, monitoring and controlling harvesting, silviculture, road maintenance and construction activities.

Applicants must be registered as a member of the Ontario Professional Foresters Association or attest to the ability to obtain within one year and have extensive relevant experience (i.e., 10+ years) in the supervision of harvesting operations in Ontario’s Great Lakes – St. Lawrence Forest Region. Applicants must also have demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with the public, contractors, clients, external agencies, staff, and Indigenous communities. The successful applicant must be able to plan effectively, innovate, negotiate and resolve conflicts and problems; is able to manage resources and financial budgets, and have demonstrated experience giving direction and coaching staff in order to meet business priorities.
