Indigenous Youth Work Exchange Program
Purpose:
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and the Bonnechere Algonquin First Nation are seeking an enthusiastic individual to assist with park operations and maintenance. Working from Bonnechere Provincial Park, you will be provided with training, job skills, experience and networks to support future career opportunities with Indigenous Communities, Natural Resources and/or the Ontario Public Service (OPS).
Number of Positions: 1
Contract Length: 10 weeks, 36.25 hours/week
Start Date: June 25, 2018
Pay Rate: $14.00/hr
Location: Bonnechere Provincial Park, 4024 Round Lake Road, Killaloe, ON, K0J 2A0
Closing Date: June 20, 2018 at 11:59 pm
Eligible Student Participants:
To be eligible to participate in the Indigenous Youth Work Exchange Program (IYWEP), individuals must:
- Be a resident of Ontario or Legally able to work in Canada
- Be between the ages of 15-24 (29 if a person with a disability) at the time of hire
- Self-identify as Aboriginal
- Be registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
Knowledge
- Good desktop computer skills
- Knowledge of the use of recreational equipment would be an asset
- Knowledge of GPS/GIS
- Knowledge of outdoor resource monitoring techniques
- Good Team building skills
- Time management skills
- Problem solving skills
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills
- Good organizational skills.
Other Qualifications
- Ability to obtain or in possession of First Aid/CPR
- Ability to obtain Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) training, health and safety and WDHP and WVP (offered through MNRF)
- Ability to work weekends
- Job requires travel
